Why We Love Vega

You try to eat well. You include vegetables in your diet. But somehow, you just don’t get enough.

We’ve been trying for the past year to eat healthier and it’s been a real struggle for us. In fact, I just fessed up the other day about taking a secret ride to Taco Bell. Fortunately, we did discover something about six months ago at Whole Foods, recommended by a guy in whatever department you buy protein shakes in—Vega, a “whole food health optimizer”. It’s basically a meal replacement shake, but it’s also great for balancing your inner workings too, sort of like a drinkable multi-vitamin.

Compared to some of the other healthy alternatives, Vega has it all.

  • 100% of your daily vitamins
  • omega 3 and 6 fatty acidsVega Whole Health Optimizer
  • 15g of fiber per serving
  • Natural hormone balancers
  • Digestive enzymes & probiotics
  • Plant-based protein
  • No sugar
  • 260 calories
  • Completely Vegan if you’re into that

Now let me just say that we’re not health nuts by any means. It might actually be laughable to call us anything like that. And Vega certainly isn’t paying us anything to promote them. But we really did find that if we replaced one meal per day  with Vega for a whole week we had so much more energy, we slept better, and our bodies just felt calm. It retails for around $60 on Amazon (we have seen the price fluctuate in the past couple months, so check back every so often.) It’s a bit more expensive in the store though, I think we paid $75 at Whole Foods.

Oddly enough, after the first week of drinking Vega we started to crave it in the mornings like you crave a milkshake. If you make it right, it’s actually pretty darn tasty.

Here are a few tips for using Vega:

  • Mix it in a blender, those shaker blenders never seemed to work for us.
  • Add some ice to thicken it up.
  • Use only one scoop per meal for your first week then gradually add the second scoop over time.
  • Mix it with almond milk, if you’d like something a bit sweeter (Amanda does) try using vanilla almond milk.
  • Throw a frozen banana in your shake to make it extra thick (PROTIP: throw the frozen banana in the microwave to soften up the peel so it’s easier to open… or, chop them up before you freeze them).
  • The original flavor is great (I like this best), the berry flavored Vega is surprisingly good (Amanda likes this best), and the vanilla chai is good but sweet.
  • Drink lots of water on the days you do drink it, Vega contains a lot of fiber.
Let us know if you’ve tried Vega or if your thinking of trying it. For us it has been a total life changer and we recommend it to everyone we know regardless of whether they’re trying to lose weight or not. As a multi-vitamin and body balancer, it’s really has made a difference for us.
