#101 Complete: Took Our Breath Away — Colorado Edition

Today’s Resolution: Do Something That Takes Your Breath Away

Oh hey, we’re in Colorado! How easy is it to have your breath taken away here? Pretty easy. Today we went to see “The Garden of the Gods” in Colorado Springs and it was amazing.

#100 Complete: Shared Our View From the Sky

Today’s Resolution: Share a Photo From Your Perspective

We spent most of the day today traveling. First in lines of thousands of people at the airport (TSA opened an hour late) and then on the plane, and then driving to Denver, Colorado. Did I mention it’s only 4 hours to Colorado? I already want to come back and I only just got here.

#94 Complete: A Comic Without Comedy

Resolution: Draw a Comic About Your Day

I hate listening to complainers, and today wasn’t a bad day, but it was a lot of cramming all of our priorities into one morning, afternoon and night that barely fit. So my admittedly poorly drawn, extremely shallow, unemotional, barely abstract comic basically just admits that any day can be solved with a taco and two bowls of lucky charms even when you’re running a way-more-than-full-time business while taking care of the hiccups of life too.

#93 Complete: Ate Too Many Tiny Oranges

Resolution: Eat Your Daily Servings of Fruit

I’ll admit that I was ill-prepared for this one. In fact, the only fruit available in the house today (and we were too busy to go shopping) were these tiny bouncy-ball sized oranges and I must have eaten twelve of them. I also ate a frozen banana. Other than that, the Edible Arrangement my mom got me a couple weeks ago would have been a welcome delivery today.

#90 Complete: Made Spectacles of Ourselves

Resolution: Pretend You’re a Reality TV Star That Needs to Improve Their Ratings

In honor of today’s resolution, a good friend of mine joined us for a full-day excursion of taste-sampling. To be honest, we do this on regular days too, not just when our resolution is to “increase our ratings”. So, in a day packed full of events, we started our day eating fried waffles in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. From there we decided that we needed bubble tea and drove to Newport, Rhode Island. In Newport, we had lavish, R-rated conversations (loudly) as if we were hosting our own talkshow. From there, Patrick walked to the barber for a haircut while my friend and I got pedicures (they always do that on reality shows, don’t they?). From there we got cupcakes, and headed to a superfoods restaurant down the street. We sneakily filled our pockets with Blue Agave syrup packets and honey straws from the condiment station and landed back at the mothership for dinner. This is where the reality show turned cooking show, where I whipped up marinated steak tips and the best clam chowder on planet earth. For a moment, I was Martha Stewart.

We ended our day with some exit interviews and a bottle of pepto bismol.

#82 Complete: Bought Patrick a Bottle of Winter Woods

Resolution: Buy Someone a Gift

After a good day and some rockin’ March weather, we decided that we were going to hang out, have a fire, do up the grill and relax outside. The warm weather told me that I needed Sangria, so I made a trip to the liquor store for some ingredients. There I came across a treasure chest of craft beers that I decided would be a nice little gift to bring home for Patrick.

In the cooler, the last one in it’s slot, was a big bottle of Winter Woods. The fact that it was brewed in Nantucket caught my eye and then the “ale ages in french oak wine barrels” had me sold. Pat loves wine, so a mixture of wine and beer sounded awesome. I got my Sangria ingredients, got a little bottle shocked by the $16 beer pricetag for a second, and hurried home with my surprise.

First reactions? AWESOME! Tasting reactions? “Oh, no, this isn’t for me”. It was a little tart for his tastes. However, he’s a champ so he drank it anyway and decided he really liked it halfway through the bottle.

#78 Complete: Dreamed Of Our Dream Home

Resolution: Think About Your Dream Home

The Restoration Hardware catalogs came in the mail yesterday so today’s resolution was definitely meant to be. We’d already been pinning things up on Pinterest of things we like but it was fun to put them in on their respective boards and think up dream combos. I’m currently in love with this iron stag head sold by RH and these teal ruffled bed sheets by Urban Outfitters. They’re both either discontinued or out of stock, but surely there’ll be replacements by the time my dream home pops up with all that magical dough I’m going to make on the lottery.

In case you’re pinterested:

#70 Complete: Ate Donut Cake!

Resolution: Eat Cake

Yeah so whatever, I dedicated today’s resolution to my birthday because the only thing I could commit to on a birthday fun diet was eating cake! And we had donut cake. Patrick woke up at 6am to drive to the other side of Rhode Island to pick up this pizza-sized donut of awesome.

#68 Complete: My Pinterest Project Was Salsa And That’s OK

Resolution: Complete a Pinterest Project

After scouring the pages of my Pinterest to-do’s I really, really just wanted to make this salsa. Patrick massacred the lime a bit too much and it was very lime-y but I’d definitely make it again with less lime juice next time.We also made a few non-Pinterest junk foodles for the eve of my birthday, including brownies that were 1/3 brownie, 1/3 cookie and 1/3 cheesecake. If I hadn’t poured hot butter into the cookie mix and melted all the chocolate chips, I’m sure it would have been worthy of a Pinterest entry on its own.

#61 Complete: Kicked The Crap Out of Today

Resolution: Give It All You’ve Got

All I have to say is F*** YEAH!

It’s only 5:40pm and I’ve already been able to accomplish more “life” work than I have in the last three months.

With work being so demanding, things like planning our wedding are about three months behind. With everyone’s opinions (you won’t make any money! nobody will come! you’re being selfish! why can’t you just have a normal wedding!) working against our “destination wedding”, our minds have been too heavy to come together and choose where we want to do it, other than knowing we want it in Napa Valley (for reasons no one else will understand until they get there) and we wanted it on 12/12/12 (since we got engaged on 11/11/11).

Today we FINALLY chose our venue. The one we’d wanted from the start took a backseat for a while because they were already booked for 12/12. So we’ve spent all this time trying to find a new venue and today just decided to compromise on the date instead. After eliminating that obstacle, it was like the skies opened up. We checked with the vineyard & winery and they’re available. So hurrah. Life just got about 50% better.

Not only that, but Patrick had some personal family duties of his own to perform today and went to action calling people, making appointments and other things necessary to the situation at hand. He kicked butt.

All in all, I’d say we definitely gave today everything we’ve got. We finally took a day off to get our “life” affairs in order and suddenly everything is looking a heck of a lot brighter. Gotta take time out for this stuff more often. Now it’s almost 6pm and we’re eating dinner. Before 9pm. What a day.

Wine break.
